Recently I have had company which was a delight. Mainly because my guests were lots of fun and secondly because I rarely get company. My nephew Aaron, his wife Chancie, and their children Veronica and Lander arrived first. The day after they left my equally delightful grandson, Sam, came to spend the better part of a week with me. Aaron’s family live in Lead, SD located in the majestic Black Hills. Sam lives west of Portland, OR on a small farm nestled in the Pacific Coast Mountains between Buxton and Vernonia.
I had prepared a Trinket Treasure Hunt for Veronica and Lander that took us into the deep, dark woods around my house. After presenting the kids with a treasure map giving them choices of which way to go, off we went. They had chosen to start the hunt by hacking through the jungle.

The deeper into the jungle we went the more dense it became.

Time for a rest as we bush-wacked our way through the woods

I informed Veronica and Lander to keep their eyes peeled for a witches castle and a tiny fairy house. I also gave them instructions to be absolutely silent if we should come upon them and whatever they did they must not touch the fairy house as it had a magic shield around it.

….. and the Trinket Treasure was found so……
HOME WITH THE LOOT!

The following day Taylor took us into the mountains north of Carson, WA, along the Wind River to play in the water and avoid the heat of the day. It was a beautiful spot, primitive and refreshing. All too soon the Baenen’s had to move on following their destination.
