MAKING PROGRESS

Life goes on as Autumn rapidly progress to Winter. Along with getting ready for the colder season approaching I have taken on the challenge of riding a Onewheel, which is a self-balancing single wheel electric board-sport, recreational personal transporter, often described as an electric skateboard.  Being fascinated by this latest trend I purchased a Onewheel for my grandkids for Christmas last year. Due to covid problems the device didn’t arrive until early summer and then spent several months at Pebble Creek for Sophie and Sam’s use. Just this fall it arrived here for Teagan and Latah to use. As is typical, it has rained nearly every day since it arrived and so learning to use it has been limited to my basement. Going is slow but I am making progress. One day Latah and I went outside to try our luck. The ground is rough but I feel more secure there as there are less sharp objects to fall on then in the basement. It is scary and I love the challenge as it great fun.

Clear the way, I am taking off
These corners are the hard part
Standing straighter
Picking up speed
To dismount just jump off with both feet at the same time
My turn. Latah has not been on the Onewheel since at grandpa’s house when Sophie helped her

As I wobble my way around I am gaining confidence and was able to ride across the yard, turn, and come back. Latah who was on only a couple times before stepped on and away she went, no wobbling, perfect corners, and no photos. I stuck behind Latah her entire ride for safety so wasn’t able to get photos of her. That episode took place in the basement. I suspect once she has slammed against the concrete floor a couple times like I have her confidence may be a bit shaken, but she really did well. KIDS!! Teagan is often away at basketball practice or games so has not had as much time to spend on the Onewheel yet.

Happy Birthday to Grandpa who celebrated his birthday last week. Latah baked him a coconut cake and made a funny card with animals she had drawn on it. Meanwhile, Teagan cooked up a beef stew for him. We delivered the gifts to his house on his big day.

November is a busy time with birthdays and Thanksgiving as well as veterans Day.

THANK YOU to all the Veterans who have served our country in the past and at the present. By my family, know, you are very much appreciated.

On a very different note:

In Greek mythology and later Roman mythology, the Cyclopes are giant one-eyed creatures. Three groups of Cyclopes can be distinguished. Here are some examples including the three brothers Brontes, Steropes, and Arges, who made for Zeus his weapon, “The Thunderbolt,” according to Hesiod’s Theogony.

Recently we have taken an interest in these mythical creatures and Latah was curious as to how she would look as a cyclops. She was particularly impressed with her unibrow. You may be thinking, “Too much time on their hands.” Perhaps !

Something is wrong with these photos.
