After the Baenen’s left I drove to Pebble Creek to pick up Sam who was going to spend part of that week with me. While there I saw how Sophie had prepared for July 4th. As is their tradition, she had painted red, white, and blue stars all over the lawn. The stars were smaller this year but there were plenty of them. I took the dogs for a walk through the pasture behind the tree house and there were stars. I couldn’t believe it. She also prepared herself for Independence Day. The tips of her hair were red for the occasion. Good job Sophie, well done.

Jason’s gang had company for the 4th but I suspect Sophie would have painted her stars even had they not.
Latah and I were excited. Teagan was already on the east coast for the summer but Latah wasn’t leaving here until the end of the week and Sam was coming. I had big plans of which most of them did not materialize. A heat wave struck with temperatures over 100 degrees topping at 106 one day. It was simply too hot to go outside. I hoped to go to Kahneeta Resort that was to open this July but it hadn’t opened yet. We hung around the house. Latah and Sam played games on their phones, we played several card games and watched a couple movies. Finally the temperatures dropped into the 90’s so away we went.

Because of fire danger we were limited where we could go, so stayed on the short grass.

Latah had not yet learned to drive the Go-Kart so opt to ride the four wheeler instead. Sam had recently purchased the Go-Kart with his lawn business money and we brought it to my place for his visit.

Finally it cooled to low 90’s so Latah directed us to a swimming hole in Trout Lake Creek located in Trout Lake. I had not been there before but it is where the local kids go. It is a beautiful place. At first Sam was reluctant to get in the water but Latah led the way and soon they were playing contently.

There were some boring times for Sam I am sure, but he did not complain once. I am proud of that guy for so many reasons. Latah then went home as she needed to get ready for her flight to Boston. That afternoon Sam and I head back to Pebble Creek where I would stay until the following morning. I left early to avoid the city traffic and soon found myself home again. I enjoyed my evening at Pebble Creek. As always there were several things in the wind. Sam and Sophie walked the 4-H pigs to get them ready for fair that is on the near horizon. Saturday morning Jason and Sam were heading to the fair grounds to get the barns ready for the animals. Jeannette and Sophie were busy as they were soon driving to Seattle to attend the Zac Brown / Kenny Chesney concert.
