The Girls

These past weeks I have had special times with my three granddaughters, each of whom is delightful in her own way. All three are on spring break so Sophie came to spend a number of days with me before Teagan and Latah left to be with family in New England. Sophie’s 16th birthday arrived while she was here so we four ladies head out to celebrate her special day. Sophie’s favorite place in all the area is good old Horse Thief Butte, so away we went.

Sophie was excited to be there, away she went to the highest peaks she could find. Can you find her on this photo?
Latah makes her way to the top of the butte
There are no special routes so just climb where you want
Teagan enjoying the view.
The very top of the butte levels off with grassy areas and rock outcroppings. Can you find Sophie on this photo? She is there. Her goal was to go to the highest point.
I love the white bushes next to the red ones.

I spent time on Horse Thief Butte in other entries so will bore you no further with that area. We don’t tire of going there. For some reason it is exiting and mysterious. The wildflowers were starting to bloom this trip.

After our Horse Thief Butte adventure we went to a Mexican restaurant in The Dalles for a birthday meal. I very much enjoyed having lunch with the young ladies which I seldom get to do. After lunch we shopped the thrift stores, then later we enjoyed Sophie’s birthday cake at home.

Latah and I both contributed to the making of the cake. Sophie request a red velvet cake which Latah made for her.

Happy 16th birthday Sophie

Sophie shares her birthday with Brody and Owen Baenen, so Happy Birthday to those guys as well. They are both in college now.

On a different Note: To follow up on Latah’s Destination Imagination (DI) tournament where they took third place and qualified for the State DI Tournament, I am happy to report they achieved third place at state and came home with a trophy. I did not attend so have no photos but it was exciting as it was Latah’s group’s first time participating in DI. Congratulations to the “Strangest Things.” Trout Lake team.
